video art

I found Silent Mountain by Bill Viola to be an extremely powerful piece. Even though there is no sound, it seems like we can hear the man screaming louder than if there was any. Viola's use of slow motion allows us to see every expression on the man's face making it even more emotional.

  1. This video is incredibly disturbing, which is an amazing feat for something so minimal. I love the minimal aspect of it, though- makes it that much more effective. It's overwhelmingly emotional. I feel slightly uncomfortable watching it, as if I have stepped in on this man at an incredibly vulnerable, private moment.

  3. I also love the intensity brought on by such a small soundless action. The emotion is so overwhelming that it passes over into the viewer creating a vulnerable moment.
