Illustrator Project

For my Illustrator poster project, I decided to make a series of images that contested the anti-drug advertising in the media today, making fun of 1950s anti marijuana and anti drug advertisements. I wanted to create pro drug advertising without the viewer really realizing it. I placed them all over my dorm building, such as in:

When you turn the corner on the staircase:

On the health bulletin board on the girl's bathroom:
On the floor bulletin board next to my vert strict RA's door:

  1. The image that I like the most is the "Open your mind" piece. I like how you used two different text displayed over one another. This makes views chose which text to read.

  2. love this, te have you been on a trip one is great because it gives off an actual feeling and makes you dizzy when you look at it. As a series the work is strong

  3. I love the colors and text you used. I think the pieces are also very strong as a series because they complement each other so well. The message is also funny but a little provocative and I like the way the subject matter corresponds with the placement of the images on a college campus.

  4. I like that the posters are humorous but also a little confrontational, and they definitely speak about drugs in a way we aren't used to seeing in public. It's very thought-provoking because it's a little ambiguous as to whether you're pro or anti-drugs. The cat ones are hysterical.

  5. I think these posters are very ironic in that they are making drugs appear fun as opposed to dangerous as is usually seen in drug-related propaganda. I also like that you chose to make these a series.

  7. I laughed at the Drug-Bulletin Board posting for these ads, very creative! Out of the designs I really enjoyed the one with the trippy tongue, "have you ever been on a trip". I love the dizziness appeal it portrays as if you are really hallucinating.. very ambitious :)

  8. Im very interested in your decision to make many different posters instead of posting the same one multiple times. Personal the one with the cat and the crazy glasses is my favorite. The colors really pop against the black and white. The stark contrast makes me think of entering a world with drugs, verses and world without. It almost makes drugs appealing as opposed to giving it a negative connotation.

  10. I like that you decided to do a series. Because they are very simple your choice to do multiple showed that the simplicity was an aesthetic choice not laziness. Some pieces are stronger than others but my favorite is the last (Sunshine in a Bag). The colors are text compliment each other well. You're posters are all extremely thought-inducing.

  11. The content that you chose is good strategically in that every single young adult on a college campus will have an opinion on the subject matter. The images themselves are very eye-catching due to the bright colors and bold imagery. This was a good approach. I like the fact that it's a series, but I do feel some are stronger than others.
